Hamilton County Board of Commissioners Extends Declaration of Emergency Caused by Drought

County Prohibits Open Burning and Use of Fireworks; Fishers in full support.

FISHERS, Ind. (July 6, 2012) - The Hamilton County Board of Commissioners has indefinitely extended the Declaration of Emergency in Hamilton County prohibiting open burning, the use of personal fireworks, and any other open flame device, excluding gas and charcoal grills.

Following the Declaration, the Town of Fishers expresses full support of the open burning and fireworks ban, and urges residents to refrain from open flame and fireworks usage.

"The extreme weather forecast paired with the lack of rainfall make for very dangerous conditions when using fireworks," said Fishers Fire Chief Steve Orusa. "We are in full support of the declaration of emergency and will continue to monitor conditions in Fishers in an effort to ensure the safety of all citizens."

Pursuant to Indiana Code 10-14-3-34, any person who knowingly, intentionally, or recklessly violates this Declaration commits a Class B Misdemeanor and may be fined and/or imprisoned pursuant to law.

Residents may report violations by calling the Fishers Police Department's non-emergency number at (317) 773 - 1282. In case of fire, please call 911 immediately.
