IU Health Saxony Hospital and Town of Fishers Partner to Provide Greater Emergency Response Access to Residents

FISHERS - Indiana University Health Saxony Hospital recently added a new onsite ambulance bay and sleeping quarters that will house Fishers Fire Department personnel beginning February 9. The result of a long-standing partnership between IU Health and the Town of Fishers, this addition to the IU Health Saxony Hospital campus will benefit residents living in the northeastern areas of Fishers by allowing Fishers Emergency Medical Services (EMS) staff to provide faster emergency response service and better access to emergency care.

"We are delighted with IU Health Saxony Hospital's partnership with the Fishers Fire Department and are proud to offer improved emergency response services to our community," said Jonathan R. Goble, president and CEO of IU Health Saxony Hospital.
The new living quarters and ambulance bay provide a solution to a response time challenge the Fishers Fire and Emergency Services Department previously faced. As an alternative to building a new $3 million fire station on the northeast side of Fishers, town leadership approached local hospitals to partner in a unique solution to EMS needs. This new partnership not only decreases response times and improves quality of care, but it also improves visibility in the community and saves taxpayers dollars. Even though it is a partnership with IU Health, patients will still be taken to the most appropriate hospital for their emergency care needs, or whichever hospital they choose.
"The partnership between IU Health and the Town of Fishers is a truly unique and innovative one," said Fishers Town Council President John Weingardt. "Having emergency personnel housed at IU Health Saxony increases the efficiency of service delivery to the exit 210 area and promotes staff training alongside talented IU Health personnel at no cost to Fishers taxpayers."
The partnership between Indiana University Health and the Town of Fishers began in 2007 as plans for building IU Health Saxony Hospital developed. The hospital then opened on December 1, 2011, and in 2012, IU Health Saxony Hospital purchased an ambulance for the Fishers Fire Department.
